Mrs Peel’s Pick of the Best Spring Blazers

I’m obsessed by blazers.  They’re such a failsafe for any woman’s wardrobe.  Effortless, and instantly smart - you can dress them up or down. If you have wobbly bits that you want disguising, they’re a no-brainer. Go for a single-breasted style if you are larger in the chest – you’ll find it more flattering. Of course, they’re perfect with a T-shirt – in many respects, it’s a combo that can’t be beaten.

Here’s my pick of the season’s best buys.

I think a coloured blazer is a wonderful thing.  Colour brings joy and happiness – what’s more, it brings compliments!

Arket’s oversized blazer is my seasonal stand out.  Bear in mind, it is oversized (I sized down two sizes so as not to be too David Byrne in the Stop Making Sense era). But the colour… it’s perfect - if you have blue eyes, they’ll be startlingly blue, skin tones are lifted to a healthy glow. It's also available in an on-trend lilac.

I'd team this blazer with any of Lemonpeel’s Citrus collection – the colour pops against the blue are stunning!  The Love More collection also goes particularly well with the gentler neutral notes being offset nicely by the blue.

Pink is very much the colour of Spring/Summer 2021, so why not a pink blazer.  My choices would be this subtle pink from Reiss (it comes with matching shorts for those of you with the pins for it) or JCrew’s candy pink fitted blazer with a turn up collar. Vibe or Bliss would team perfectly.

Massimo Dutti, which despite the Italian name is, in fact, a Spanish company is a one-stop shop for classic women’s blazers.  Beautifully cut and at a reasonable price, you’ll have these in your wardrobe for years and years.

This season has a gorgeous toffee coloured linen blazer that I’ve worn on repeat. It’s made from sustainably grown European linen and uses an environmentally friendly process. Make it into a supersmart suit with matching wide leg trousers.

In a double-breasted style, again available with matching trousers, comes a wonderful blazer in a rich terracotta colour.  Super-flattering on darker skin tones or against a tan. Superb with red hair.

Don’t be scared of a white blazer – they will transform a basic summer wardrobe. Wear with anything – shorts, jeans, flowy skirts. Team with gold jewellery, a tan bag and belt and you’re good to go. Classic, effortless chic.
